Hosted CRM – What is the deal with Microsoft?
Ok here is the deal. The current licensing does not allow for a subscription-based month to month pricing on CRM, as SalesForce.com does. Microsoft's license on all the MBS products must be run on a computer owned by the license holder, and that license holder is not allow to “Sub License” access to the program.
However, this is currently allowed for most all the other products in the “Classic” side of the business. Tweaks to the license are all that is going to be required for ASP partners to offer a pay as you go model for Microsoft CRM. This revision should be coming in the spring. Many of the technical issues surrounding setting up multiple CRM servers on the same machine have been addressed in v 3.0. The improved ability to run CRM’s outlook client on Citrix, native SSL, and SLQ clustering support all make it possible for a partner to build a solution for hosting Microsoft CRM.
